An energetic, high achieving Finance Director who sets exacting standards for himself and his team. Steve has effectively applied his strong commercial acumen in driving rapid growth in all the businesses with which he’s been associated. He ensures the finance function provides a high quality & cost effective service while he supports the board in decision taking, strategic planning and dealing with outside advisers.
Steve qualified as a Chartered Accountant with KPMG, passing all exams at the first attempt.
Career in business
After qualifying, he climbed the corporate ladder, gaining experience in manufacturing, distribution and finance industries with blue chip companies including GKN, Courtaulds & Lloyds TSB. His experience encompasses all aspects of financial management. He organised an MBO, several acquisitions, IT implementations and cost reduction programmes.
To enhance his management skills, he took an MBA with the Open University, graduating in 2001.
Since 2006, he has been working for a range of businesses on a portfolio basis. Key achievements on behalf of his clients have included:-
• Raising over £37m of equity and debt financing from various sources.
• Managed six full scope IT system implementations in different companies. (Xero, Microsoft Dynamics, Sage 200.)
• Built self-supporting finance teams from scratch.
• Implemented three cost reduction/restructuring programmes in different businesses, saving over £1m in total.
He has held several full time CFO roles. In the most recent, he took a start-up food manufacturer to European market leadership with a turnover of £30m in 5 years.
Steve lives in Solihull & is married with two adult children. In his spare time he enjoys squash, tries to improve his French and runs the UK’s finest Book Club.
